The Victorian-Romanesque-styled property was built in 1892 and operated as a bank and bank manager’s residence for many years until falling into disrepair in the 1970s. In 2009, Southern Highlanders Warwick and Barbara Wainberg purchased the property and embarked on a huge restoration project to return the stately building to its former glory.
Featuring five deluxe, individually themed suites as well as a studio and free-standing cottage, the hotel is fitted with polished wooden floors, leather chesterfield lounges in the cosy library and lounge, open fireplaces, and dozens of historic photographs capturing life in the Southern Highlands over a century ago. With personal service, hearty country breakfasts, complimentary afternoon tea and a farewell gift of home-made jam, a ‘bank holiday’ at the exquisitely restored Old Bank is certain to reap interest.
During their stay at the Old Bank, guests can visit the Highlands’ many galleries, gardens, museums, antique stores, boutiques, picnic areas, restaurants, cafes, wineries, walking trails, bicycle tracks and golf courses.
